About Us
Who? What? Where?
Who?
"Nicols + Brien" is a specialised Insolvency practice.
It was formed in October 1998. You may be familiar with "Richard
Brien & Co" which Richard commenced in 1991 through
to September 1998. Prior to that both Steve Nicols and Richard Brien have
worked together in Insolvency practices since 1984 with Richard
being a partner in various firms since 1983.
The
practice concentrates its efforts on assisting other professionals
and business advisers to provide practical, meaningful and cost
effective solutions to their clients' Insolvency problems. This
involves pro-active involvement of either Steve or Richard from
initial advice, to conclusion of any matter.
Steve
is an Official Liquidator and Registered Trustee in Bankruptcy.
He has specialised in Insolvency since 1984. His work covers
all forms of Insolvency administrations ranging from sole traders to
listed Public Companies.
Richard
has had over 22 years experience in the insolvency area
as an Official Liquidator and Registered Trustee dealing with
a vast array of administrations both corporate and personal
as well as providing advice and management assistance to small
businesses with non-fatal insolvency symptoms.
What?
What we like to do is to assist clients
of other professionals to deal with insolvency issues before
they become fatal to the business operations of the client.
The analogy of a Corporate Doctor has been widely used. It is
probably a good analogy as a thorough review of a situation
together with some hard-nosed decisions is sometimes all a business
needs to regain its former vitality.
More often than not however, a business in trouble only seeks
assistance from its business advisers when things are potentially
terminal. It is thus an unfortunate fact that our role may only
encompass a formal insolvency administration.
In a formal
insolvency situation the firm's expertise covers the broad
spectrum of formal insolvency appointments including:
-
Voluntary
administration
-
Creditors
Voluntary Winding Up
-
Receiverships/Controllers,
for companies or partnerships, Court, or Private appointment
-
Part
X Administrations or Bankruptcy for individuals
-
Official
Liquidations
We
are also one of the few firms in New South Wales that has an active
Part X/Trustee in Bankruptcy practice, (18% of all New South Wales
Part X's are handled by this office).
The
size of the practice is ideally suited for small to medium size
administrations with a strong emphasis on investigative skills.
This latter aspect has been advantageous to the practice in that
it leaves us well placed to perform a company review, or monitoring
assignments for both credit providers and business owners.
To
assist other professionals in Legal and Accounting practices we
are available at call to provide advice or assistance in handling
a client's insolvency problem. The first meeting is at "No
Charge".
We have also developed various information papers on relevant
aspects of Insolvency for professionals to use both for their
own information, and to help in explaining problems to clients.
As Insolvency Specialists, we do not undertake any tax or general
accounting work. This enables us to focus our energies in the
Business Recovery and Insolvency areas.
Where?
"Where" in one sense is not so relevant as we travel
when and if required. That is, we come to you if required to assist
in dealing with a client's problems. Being on-site can often lead
to a better, first hand analysis of a matter.
Our office details are however:
